RAW - Nigel Barker, the beloved judge of America’s Next Top Model, has been shooting a series of portraits for a new book he’s putting together called RAW. Basically it’s a collection of very clean, simple and honest photos of his friends from the various areas of his life. A couple months back I was lucky enough to get a call from Mr. Barker to head down to his studio one morning and I brought my Barbra Streisand playlist (you have to watch this VIDEO).
It’s funny how sometimes an old editorial seems to randomly and simultaneously resurface all over the web. Lately I’ve been seeing these pictures from a 2007 Vogue Paris issue all over the place. Only one picture actually made it to print at the time, the rest are outtakes from the shoot with Hedi Slimane (which took all of 15 minutes). Funny how a quick picture can start resurfacing 4 years later.
When I was in Italy two months ago for Milan Fashion Week I was asked to be the first cover girl for a brand new magazine called Viktor Mag - I’m posting the cover and interview today and tomorrow I’ll post the editorial. I wish the entire team at Viktor Magazine the best on their new venture and I hope we have the chance to work together again soon!
The World of Jean Paul Gaultier. Cover & editorial shoot honoring JPG by Nelson Simoneau.
When I heard that Canada was hosting the very first retrospective devoted to my dear friend Jean Paul Gaultier, I immediately jumped at the chance to be a part of the celebrations. Starting June 17th, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts will display 35 years of outstanding work by Mr. Gaultier at The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk. Over 120 haute couture dresses and ready-to-wear pieces made from 1976 to 2011 will be on display and I can tell you, they are all exquisite! A few months back I was fortunate enough to get to see some of these archive pieces up close and personal - in fact I wore them for a very special Jean Paul Gaultier editorial and cover featured in this month’s Elle Canada and Elle Quebec (James’ behind-the-scenes video coming soon)
I owe so many of my greatest moments to Jean Paul Gaultier and now I’m so proud to be part of a moment for him.
A year ago this month I was announcing my part in a new collaboration between Coke and Karl Lagerfeld - I’m happy to tell you that it was so successful that we are all doing it again this year!!
This time there is a twist though and I can’t reveal exactly what that is just yet. What I can say is that my good friend Heidi Mount is a part of this as well as Jeneil Williams. Stay tuned for more details…
CALL OF THE WILD Filmed and edited by James Conran
I’m seeing a theme here: Yesterday I posted a photo of the long lost “Bronx Zoo Cobra” and myself on set, though I notice many of my non-NY-followers didn’t get the joke. Today I’m posting a never-before-seen video of Siri Tollerod and I posing with an elephant and camel at Montreal Zoo this winter. It was an amazing experience but what this video cannot describe is the INTENSE fumes we battled in the elephant den all day. Also, literally every 20 minutes the elephant would release a deluge-like flood as it went to the bathroom, sending everyone scrambling to find higher ground.
Remember that "Energy Coco" editorial I did last year? First it made it to the cover of Elle Italia - then, a few months later it was the cover of Elle Czech - now I see its the cover of Elle Ukraine! Haha!! Will it ever stop??
I’m obsessed with the other model in this video - dont you think she could be my fashion grandma?! She told me she used to runway model in the 1960’s for the great houses like Chanel and Dior and then went onto assist Siegfried and Roy onstage until they retired. Now she is again working as a fashion model in Germany and I was privileged enough to work with her on this shoot arranged by another great woman in fashion, Ms. Ellen Von Unwerth.
We filmed inside the old Berlin powerplant and my husband James documented the entire day for me. If you’re interested, you can find some of the resulting portraits Ellen shot HERE. They were sponsored by the brand Schwarzkopf which, coincidentally, I am doing another special project with this summer in collaboration with Karl Lagerfeld!
I am so fortunate to get to work with these legends!
Remember a few months ago I posted THIS picture from the winter wonderland of Czech Republic? Well, I can now tell you that I was there to shoot a spring campaign for John Lewis stores in England!
Thats right, SPRING CLOTHING IN THE DEAD OF WINTER.
Needless to say, I nearly froze to death every day of the shoot but I think the results were quite beautiful. James was with me and shot a little behind-the-scenes for you all to see. I must say, he’s quite handy to have around! If you notice in the first scenes (filmed in the town of Karlovy Vary) there are these natural thermal springs that everyone is drinking from - They are said to have medicinal value and so people travel from all over with these weird little tea-pot shaped cups to drink from the springs. Look out for that!
Last week my dear friend Zac Posen asked me to model a few of the looks from his Fall Winter 2011 Z Spoke collection. Can I just say, I wanted to go home with every piece! Just my style. I was joined by a great cast of girls: Crystal Renn, Tao Okamoto, Sessilee Lopez and Anna Cleveland. To see the rest of the collection click HERE.
