Coco Rocha has come a long way since she was spotted by a modeling scout at an Irish dancing competition. Since then, she’s become a fixture on the fashion scene — appearing on the runways for Marc Jacobs, Versace, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Anna Sui, Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel and Balenciaga.
More recently, though, she’s become a fixture on the social media scene, positioning herself as one of the most digitally-savvy models of her generation. Hers was one of the first fashion insider blogs in 2008, and Rocha was an early adopter of Twitter, Pose and Instagram. Across all social platforms, Rocha has more than 7 million followers on Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Tencent Weibo, Sina Weibo and others, earning her street cred as an socially savvy supermodel and role model for anyone looking to learn a thing or two about branding (she runs her accounts herself, and the New York Times recently noted her prowess). Her social savvy explains why Rocha will soon be a coach on Oxygen’s upcoming show, The Face, where she’ll teach aspiring models how to represent a brand and build one’s own.

Her social media deftness and high-fashion expertise are also why we thought it appropriate for Coco Rocha to curate the fashion category of Mashable’s Innovation Index. Take a look at her picks below and then cast your vote in Fashion and the 14 other categories.

CHINA - The next social media frontier.
After over 2 years on Twitter I recently hit a huge milestone - 200,000 followers. That might be a drop in the bucket if you’re Lady Gaga or Kim Kardashian, but I never thought that many people would be interested in what I have to say. Twitter has been an amazing way for me to reach out to others, and as a service it’s uniting people from all around the world. Except, of course, in a few countries where it’s banned. One of those countries in particular happens to have 1.3 billion citizens: China.
As an experiment back in October, I signed up for the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, a service called Tencent Weibo, and I was shocked at the results. In just over 2 months of using the service, I now have over 100,000 new friends in China. At this rate I imagine that this number will surpass my twitter followers within a few weeks. I really had no idea that there was such a huge crowd of people in China interested in the life of a high fashion model, but I’m very happy to have found them half the world away!
“I’m having coffee with Jack, the co-founder of Twitter and chief executive of Square, today - very excited! If you could ask him one thing, what would you ask (said in my best Barbara Walters voice)?”
When I guest-starred onAngelea claimed
“…and they said it wouldn’t last. Today’s my 2 year Twitter anniversary!!! 2 years, 1,923 tweets and 127,221 followers later - we’ve come a long way, Twitter.”
WORLDS MOST EXCLUSIVE WEBSITE? - Clever or obnoxious? Either way, when I read about this I was instantly intrigued. The World’s Most Exclusive Website is a digital art project which limits entry to a VERY select few.
You can only access the website if you have a verified twitter account, and from there the number of followers you have on twitter dictates how far you can explore the site. (P.S. If you’re using an unverified account, you will be redirected to the Olive Garden’s website.)
I know you’re all as curious as I was about what’s inside so I took screen shots for you guys to show you how far I got. I hit a wall when it said I needed over 100,000 followers to move into the next room - I was at 96,262.
“I have a new name on twitter… actually an old name, MY NAME!! - @CocoRocha”
WELCOME TO MY NEW HOME ON THE WEB!!
Actually I’ve been here for a little while, secretly, but I had to get my handle on this new social media tool before telling one and all. If you’re visiting here from my old blogspot - well hello there! Welcome to blogging in 2010!! I’ve picked tumblr as my new platform to blog from as I feel its much simpler and easier to manage and navigate (look at the tags to the left) than anything else out there. Everything of note that goes on my facebook and my twitter is blogged here - so if you look through the archive you’ll find a lot of things that you never saw on blogspot.
If you don’t already have one, get your own tumblr and follow me! Its the way of the future people…
Speaking of which: Have you tried out googles new fashion baby Boutiques.com yet? Its a fashion social media platform designed by the geniuses at google. They have you pick and save your favorite clothing pieces and then use complex algorithms (just using the word algorithm makes it complicated to me) to analyze and suggest clothing you might like. Like pandora for music, it works, mostly… A lot of fashion movers and shakers have accounts already so its fun to follow them also.
And you know I couldn’t pass up yet another social media forum. Follow me at:

“HAHA! @kanyewest - followed by 1,372,000 tweeple now follows 16 models and 16 models only. HI KANYE!”
“My 1,000 tweet I’d like to dedicate to the man of today: MR. JEAN PAUL GAULTIER!!! Who’s excited for his show!?! Meeee.”
Blogging From The Sky
by Coco Rocha
Well people, I’m on a plane on my way to LA. Yes, that’s right, I’m on wifi at 12,000 feet!! How amazing is technology these days?! The only thing that could make this any cooler would be if I were blogging from my iSlate which Apple may or may not announce actually EXISTS at their media event tomorrow. Have you guys seen this video !?! I want! I want!!!
Anyway, I land in LA in a few hours and I have a busy few days filled with Grammy rehearsal’s and clothing line meetings. I can’t believe it but the 52nd annual Grammys are coming up in just 5 days now. Are you ready? I am… sort of. The last few days I’ve been thinking a lot about what going to ask the attendees. Do you have ideas? Send me your suggestions if you do and I’ll gladly read over them. Anyway, even if I’m not 100% ready, my dress is!
One thing I’d like to ask: If you’re not following me on Twitter make sure you do by the night of the Grammys! In between corresponding for ET Canada I shall be twittering my thoughts about what everyone is wearing on the red carpet. You’ll not be able to find any more up-to-the-minute red carpet Grammy information than by following my streaming updates on twitter.com/oh_so_coco - BELIEVE THAT!!!
Before I go I’ll leave you with a picture of James and I enjoying the wonders of modern life. At this very second he’s on his plane from NY to LA and I’m on my plane from Miami to LA - Yes, we’re video chatting up in the sky - Could we be any more futuristic?!
A Night At The Opera
by Coco Rocha
If you’ve been following me on Twitter (I’ve been faithfully tweeting every day people!!) you might have noticed that this week James and I had the opportunity to go see the opera Il Tritico at New York’s Lincoln Center!!! It could be because of my early training as a dancer, but since I was little I’ve always had a big appreciation the performing arts and so to see Il Trittico was a special treat for me.
Lincoln Center is a gorgeous theater and we had our own little box with a great view. We tried to take a few pictures before the opera began but no sooner had we taken out our camera to take this picture - an usher appeared out of no where insisting that we refrain from photography. We obliged, the lights dimmed, the curtain rose and we saw the set of the first act…
It was stunning! The first act takes place on a barge on the river Seine and the forced perspective was so believable that I found myself wondering where the set ended and where the backdrop began. The Opera itself is very dark and brooding, and ends on a very depressing note. The second act is quite different. It is set in the square of a convent and deals with a nuns guilt over past sins..Unlike the first act, the second is quite uplifting in the end. Once again the set was amazing!! The whole floor was on an angle so that everyone could see into the convent.
At one point a donkey came on stage!? James initially insisted that it was just two midgets in a donkey suit but it turns out it was indeed a real live donkey! This led to a whispered conversation between James and I about this donkey: where did he come from, and where does he live?? Is he like the Phantom of the Opera, living in the dungeon cellars below Lincoln Center?? And what must be going through the donkeys mind as it goes on stage?!? Here he is, walking onto a sloping stage with these weird optical illusion-like props and structures that surely must play tricks on his little donkey brain… and all the while 50 people in nun costume are around him, singing in these loud operatic voices. Not to mention the hundreds of people in the audience watching on. That donkey must be thinking “what the…?!?”. - Anyway, we digress…
The third act is the most popular; a comedy full of greed and conniving. It is set indoors, in a giant old bedroom in Florence and features the soprano aria, “O mio babino caro” (Oh, my dear papa - see youtube!!), which you might have heard in a number of movies. Its also officially known as “the song that always makes me cry” by the way!! Anyway, between tears I did managed to sneak a picture using my iPhone and amazingly the ninja-usher didn’t magically appear to reprimand me!
All in all we had a lovely time. I’d highly recommend seeing Il Trittico to anyone living in New York or visiting!!
