Yorkdale Expansion Campaign - Behind the scenes

With more than 225 shops and services, Yorkdale Shopping Centre is already Canada’s premier shopping destination. To coincide with their brand new $220-million, 145,000-square-foot expansion, Yorkdale invited me to star in a special multi-platform campaign celebrating many of the iconic brands arriving at the mall. As a Canadian I’m very happy to be a part of such a big moment for Toronto fashion!

The expansion opened this weekend so for more information visit www.yorkdale.com

STRUT FOR A CURE 2010
by Coco Rocha

I’m back! Did you miss me!? First things first: I just want to say, my wedding and the honeymoon were absolutely wonderful. This whole last month was a true fairytale come true for me and I promise that you’re going to hear all about AND see the pictures very soon and in a very special way!
For now though, for my first blog as Mrs. Coco Rocha Conran, I’m going to write about something very special that happened in Toronto just a week before James and I traded our vows. On May 27th I was priveleged to host a little event called:

Actually, it was anything but a small event - It seemed like all of fashionable Canada came out to support Todd Lynn, Jeanie Becker and myself for an evening for fashion and music. Over 1000 people bought tickets to the show and all the benefits went to a very worthy cause, childrens with cancer.

All in all it was a total success. If you missed it, have no fear: next year is already shaping up to be just as fantastic. Go to www.strutforacure.com to find out how you can help make 2011 even better!!!

You’re Invited Againby Coco RochaLast year I invited you all to a special fashion show my cousin and I hosted in Canada for a very worthy cause. Well you’re all invited once more because we are doing it again!! Erika and I are proud to announce this years (now annual) “Strut for a cure.” event.
Presented by the Coast-to-Coast Against Cancer Foundation on May 27th we are uniting fashionable Canadians to raise funds and awareness to fight pediatric cancer. The idea for the first ‘Strut for a cure’ was born in 2009 when my 11 year old cousin Erika asked for my help to assist her in raising funds to help children with cancer. Now, 2010, Toronto welcomes the ‘Strut for a Cure’ event featuring my friends from Elite and I in a one-of-a-kind fashion show. One thousand guests will enjoy an evening of fashion, music, entertainment, cocktails, food and dancing! You’ll be happy to know that 100% of the dollars raised will go toward improving the survival rate and quality of life of children and their families impacted by cancer.Other guests attending include DJs: DJ Adrien Villanova, Paris & Saint-Tropez, DJ jojoflores, Gotsoul Montreal, Monk by Templar, DJ Keidy, Miami. Not only that but Fashion Televisions Jeanne Beker will be Emcee for the evening! If you would like to help out in any way, please go to www.strutforacure.com to see what you can do. Make sure to check out the contests we are throwing there as well.

James & I at Flare
by Coco Rocha

A few months ago I took James to my Flare magazine shoot up in Toronto. There he was sat all cozy, reading his book and sipping on his coffee, thinking he was just going to take it easy while I worked all day!! Well word spread on set that James was an artist with a background in murals and so pretty early in the day he was recruited to draw on the giant chalk board behind me. By lunchtime he was covered in chalk dust and still drawing up a storm. All together I think he drew at least 8 unique backdrops that corresponded to the outfits I was wearing. We had such a great time working together! It was interesting to see how he was inspired by the clothing to draw the backdrop, and I in turn was inspired by the backdrop to model the clothing! Here’s a behind the scenes video from Flare, but go buy your copy now for all the pictures!

THE COCO CLONE
by Coco Rocha

Over a year ago I sat for a sculptor who immortalized my likeness in a special series of Rootstein mannequin’s. For a while one of these mannequins could be found hiding behind a large plant at Elite in New York. Another of the mannequins stood, dressed in my old clothes in the corner of my moms bedroom… never failing to scare the living daylights out of me every time I walked in the room!! If you’re wondering where the mannequin is now, she has been spotted in Toronto along side Twiggy, Agyness Deyn, Erin O’Connor, Tyra Banks and others.

Coco After Blizzard
by Coco Rocha

Last week there was a huge snow storm that covered much of the east coast in a foot or two of snow. I was in Toronto airport at the time waiting on a flight home which ended up being delayed, delayed and then… delayed. If you follow me on twitter you might have seen my picture update. When James and I realized we were going to be stuck there for a few hours we decided to stretch our legs out on the floor and picked a space away from everyone else. Unfortunately this  was the spot a family of rambunctious kids also picked and we ended up being harassed by little kids the whole time. James who was, shall we say, a little cranky (and running on 3 hours sleep) decided to set up a fortress of bags and coats to defend our turf from any invading little people. This really didn’t help a whole lot, the kids just ended up bashing into it and we gave up on resting entirely.

Anyway, in our sleepless frustration James and I decided made a little parody video of that little boy David, after his trip to the dentists.  You might have seen it on Youtube? Well, we thought it was funny at the time but perhaps we were just delirious??

VOICE OVER
by Coco Rocha

I was just in Toronto to record the voice over for my 1 hour special with E!, which only took about 14 hrs to do. It was so weird, I’m not used to exaggerating my voice but that’s what they like for TV I suppose. A few times we had to stop because I had what they called “Marble Mouth” - It’s when you’re not making sense anymore and you’re slurring words together. When I was finished I felt like I was still exaggerating everything. I don’t know how announcers do it. I mean, they must sound like that 24/7.

Canada Has Tallentby Coco RochaSorry peoples I haven’t been a good blogger for the past little while. I’ve been taking a break but now I’m back. I recently went to Toronto to support Toronto Fashion Week - Lets just say we have got a few talented designers out there that are going to be the next best things.
One to look out for are the boys from Greta Constantine, they’re a new favorite of mine and will be of yours. This amazing jacket was made of airplane seat belt material. Don’t get me started on the pants. You heard it hear first!
