Okay, technically it’s not a gown — it’s a vintage Givenchy pantsuit, complete with authentic red-wine stain, which Coco Rocha wore to the Met Ball after purchasing it from an auction of Elizabeth Taylor’s things. Had Coco worn it, say, to a movie premiere or to a party honoring some random new smartphone, we might feel differently. But this outfit has two places in time: on Elizabeth in its era, and on Rocha here, as a nod to the “Impossible Conversation” between a deceased superstar and a living supermodel. We loved it as a clever nod to the night’s theme, and Coco wore the hell out of it — no mean feat when you try to imagine if Lindsay Lohan, in full Taylor regalia, had worn it in Liz & Dick. We are clutching our phantom pearls in very real horror.
Sadly, all good things must come to an end. For my 5th and final video report with New York Magazine’sThe Cut Blog, I speak with one of my favorite designers, Anna Sui, about her fall collection and my first time walking for her. I also bump into my big sister Karen Elson who, like me, enjoys the luxury of watching a show over walking in it!
In my third video for New York Magazine’sThe Cut Blog we catch up with Jenna Lyons, creative director of J.Crew, and casting director Julia Samersova (who also stars in E!’s modeling reality show Scouted), who tells us why a presentation needs models who DO NOT complain.
Two more behind-the-scenes videos to go. To see the two that are already out go HERE and HERE.
Taken from NYmag Coco Rocha and James Conran dream of moving to Brooklyn By Bennet Marcus
James Conran said his fashion education began out of necessity soon after he met his model wife of five months, Coco Rocha. “I had to have a crash course in fashion. About two years ago I didn’t know anything, but then I was like, I better get to know what this girl’s doing for work,” Conran said at last night’s WWD @ 100 Anniversary Gala. By this point, Rocha thinks her husband knows more about fashion than she does, but she still has more clothes, and she hogs all the closet space in the house. “She has her closet and my closet,” Conran said; in fact, the flannel shirt Rocha wore to the party is her husband’s. “I couldn’t even find my own clothes; I was like, give me your clothes,” she said.
Meanwhile, the couple is hoping for more closet space soon: “We want a house with a garden,” Conran said. “We’re talking about Brooklyn Heights or something.” If they lived there, he went on dreamily, they’d only come into Manhattan for work. “You’d never see us again,” Rocha added. There’s one problem, though: “No one wants to buy our apartment,” she sighed. (The apartment was recently featured in Vogue.)
Kanye, the media recently noticed with much excitement, followed only fifteen people on Twitter, all models he names in one of his new jams. But one of those lucky girls, Coco Rocha, just tweeted, “Its over. I’m no longer following @Kanyewest and he no longer follows me. We parted on amicable terms. Thats my statement at this time. ;)” In fact, Kanye is following NONE of those hot fifteen women anymore. They’ll probably sleep just fine tonight. But will the rest of us? [kanyewest/Twitter]
