Tonight is my 7th Met Gala! I’m so excited! I’ve had so many amazing Met memories in the past: going with Jean Paul Gaultier at 17 years old, going with my husband, James, wearing Zac Posen’s epic “cloud dress” and last year wearing vintage Givenchy previously owned by Elizabeth Taylor. Can’t wait for tonight!!

THE CUT:  The 25 Best Red-Carpet Moments This Yearby The Fug Girls for New York Magazine.
#10: Coco Rocha at the Met Ball
Okay, technically it’s not a gown — it’s a vintage Givenchy pantsuit, complete with authentic red-wine stain, which Coco Rocha wore to the Met Ball after purchasing it from an auction of Elizabeth Taylor’s things. Had Coco worn it, say, to a movie premiere or to a party honoring some random new smartphone, we might feel differently. But this outfit has two places in time: on Elizabeth in its era, and on Rocha here, as a nod to the “Impossible Conversation” between a deceased superstar and a living supermodel. We loved it as a clever nod to the night’s theme, and Coco wore the hell out of it — no mean feat when you try to imagine if Lindsay Lohan, in full Taylor regalia, had worn it in Liz & Dick. We are clutching our phantom pearls in very real horror.

US WEEKLY - 25 Most Stylish New Yorkers
Name: Coco RochaOccupation: Supermodel
Perfect Blend: The Canadian-born stunner — who will be one of the coaches on Oxygen’s new modeling competition The Face (episodes begin in early 2013) — describes her style as “an eclectic mix of high and low fashion.” To wit, her wardrobe favorites include everything from a faux fur waistcoat she got when she was five (“It was once knee-length but now of course it’s very snug. It’s crazy that I still wear it 19 years later but I’m not thinking of retiring it any time soon!”) to a hot pink and orange Rebecca Minkoff purse (“Any time I feel like my outfit is a little boring, I’ll throw on an orange lip and grab the Minkoff and I’ve instantly upped the voltage by 200 percent!”) to a black embellished jacket from Alice and Olivia (“It’s got this great military/Michael Jackson style to it, which is completely up my alley”).
Loving Ms. Liz: “I’ve always been a huge admirer of Elizabeth Taylor,” says the 24-year-old supermodel, who has graced the covers of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and W, as well as appeared in ad campaigns for Versace, Chanel, Lanvin and Calvin Klein. “She had such amazing class and style. The great thing about her is you know she picked everything herself, before the days of celebrity stylists taking all the fun out of it. At an auction I actually bought a Givenchy jumpsuit she had owned in the ’80s and wore it to the Met Gala.” Another fashion icon: “If I could dress as the female version of Karl Lagerfeld everyday, I probably would. I love that he is always Karl, all hours of the day and night. You’ll never find him in sweatpants and a hoodie and that’s true style commitment.”
Aisle Be There for You: “If ever I’m in need of a beautiful look for an event, nine times out of 10, I turn to Zac Posen. Not only is he a very close personal friend, but I find his gowns and dresses flatter a woman in all the right ways,” says Rocha, who wore one of Posen’s creations in her 2010 wedding to artist James Conran. “I just walked in his fashion 2013 show and there were at least a dozen dresses I had my eye on. I loved mine, but I was in the wedding dress so I don’t think I’ll be wearing that out and about any time soon.”
Quote: “New Yorkers dress very dark and chic. When I’m spending my days stomping the streets of New York, I nearly always find myself in monochromatic shades of black and gray. I love my leather boots, leather jackets and hard protective layers. I guess we wear them almost like a suit of armor. In Paris, you’ll see me in a cute little summery dress and when I’m in L.A., I finally bring out the colors. But I feel more myself in NYC.”

Model Coco Rocha to Channel Elizabeth Taylor at Met GalaBy Lorena Blas, USA TODAY
It’s the fashion world’s equivalent of the Oscars, so it’s no wonder models and stars want to go all out for the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute gala. Model Coco Rocha will merge the fashion and entertainment worlds at Monday’s event by wearing a vintage Givenchy outfit previously owned by Elizabeth Taylor. Rocha bought the yellow and fuschia jumpsuit and jacket at auction in December.
"I’ve always been a huge admirer of Elizabeth Taylor," says Rocha, 23. ,"For me, it was her wardrobe that was really impressive. Here was a celebrity who, in the time before stylists and professionals picking your wardrobe, always looked amazing."
Gala guests can try to spot a souvenir on the outfit. “If you look carefully, you can see the suit has this very faint red wine stain on it. After I had it cleaned I took it to show the editors at Vogue and we could still see the stain. We all agreed that since it was Liz Taylor’s wine stain, it’s OK to wear as is,” Rocha says.

Here’s an excerpt:"(Glenda) Bailey also shares our royal wedding obsession, but isn’t so much concerned with who is designing Kate’s dress as much as what the dress itself will look like. Coco Rocha was a little less enthused about the royal nuptials, but as her sister-in-law (and date for the night) chided, “She just had an amazing wedding, I don’t how it’s going to beat it.” Well, we can’t argue with that — that video was gorgeous. Rocha did have strong thoughts about her timeless icon though: “Our legendary Elizabeth Taylor. I was obsessed with her. Until the end she was still looking fabulous in her gowns and her jewelry. I have never been starstruck by anyone, but if I ever met her I would have just been overwhelmed.”
